Institute for Youth Culture Research

Since 2002, the Institute for Youth Culture Research in Vienna offers applied youth research to NGOs and Social Profit Organisations.

Our senior researchers represent more then ten years of experience in the fields of youth and youth cultural research and guarantee a theory-based and multi-disciplinary orientation and a well-founded knowledge of methods.

The Institute for Youth Culture Research follows a life-world approach based on the theoretical work of Alfred Schütz and Thomas Luckmann. In combining quantitative, statistical and qualitative, interpretative methods we perform high level applied youth research. Our research leads to a broader knowledge and understanding of young people.

Our main activities are:

  • contract research
  • professional consultancy and expertise concerning general youth-related topics as well as contemporary youth cultural phenomenons
  • basic research, analysing youth- and youth-culture-related phenomenons of high public interest

We are specialised on standardised youth surveys, focus groups and group discussions, problem-oriented qualitative interviews, expert interviews and evaluation studies.

In addition, we provide various institutions from the areas of youth research, youth politics and youth work with our information-service "jugendkultur.at-Pressedienst" that is free for NGOs, Social Profits and journalists. We also offer different knowledge transfer modules such as workshops and trainings for professionals from the fields of youth politics and youth work. We emphasise in making our outcomes publicly available by publishing selected results in books and magazines.

Our scientific contributions regarding the "youth scenes approach" are highly acknowledged throughout the international scientific community.
